Making the best use of the interesting spaces I have been given, is always my overall aim when constructing interiors. Layouts need to be practical, usable and accessible to all, as well as complying with regulations, and providing a welcoming and attractive space for people to interact in.
"Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context - a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an enviroment, and enviroment in a city plan." Eliel Saarinen

My brief was to kit out the lower deck of this vintage routemaster bus as a catering trailer with facilities to cater for large crowds at festivals. The bus was intending to sell jacket potatoes and pie and mash style food. Low curved ceilings, wheel arches, large windows and thin steel walls made fitting in all the required catering equipment and storage a challenge. Some catering equipment, and the hand wash sink, had to be completely remodelled to suit their positioning on the bus.
A school who wanted to offer lessons in food technology required a classroom kitting out with mini kitchens for each pupil and a teacher demonstration area at the front of the class. The space had to be usable by disabled children so all gangways were made accessible to wheelchair users and one of the units was built in such a way that the height of the tabling could be adjusted to suit varying requirements.
62 Love Me Do, Is a 60's themes diner created in a listed building. Finding a practical solution for integrating a commercial kitchen into such an old and unique building proved a challenge. However with some clever design layouts, I was able to satisfy all planning laws and regulations and create an efficient usable workspace to cater for the employees, diners and menus on offer.
